LAOS: Students initiate environmental education and waste separation in schools and neighbouring villages
A team of students from the Northern Agriculture and Forest College in Luang Prabang aims to introduce efficient methods of organic farming and waste management in nearby primary & secondary schools and villages. The members of the Green Environment Conservation Team developed training concepts, posters and educational brochures with the plan to carry out training and awareness campaigns. These also include concrete demonstrations on organic vegetable cultivation, compost production, forest and river protection and waste management.
There is still a lot of educational work to be done, especially with regard to waste disposal and recycling. The extensive use of plastic bags and bottles, as well as the burning of all kinds of rubbish, is still widespread in Laos, and awareness of the environmental impact of these practices is still very low.
The environmental group demonstrates efficient methods of organic farming and sustainable waste management on the college campus but recognizes that these activities are only sustainable if they are not limited to their college.
With the support of BanSenSuk e.V. in cooperation with Stichting Ailine, the environmental group was able to implement their ideas and conduct activities in a total of 16 schools and villages in the neighbourhood of the college. The very practice-oriented training included collecting and separating waste, setting up a composting station and establishing a waste collection point in all schools and villages visited.
The dedicated team, led by Mr. Somphong Khammalavong, delivered the content with great fun through an innovative approach using games, quizzes and practical application. BanSenSuk chairwomen was able to accompany the first trainings and provide additional suggestions for the future implementation.
All activities started are governed and guided by regular follow-up visits. Support for certification as a „Green School“ or „Green Village“ with extended activities is also being considered.
We are pleased that we can support this important educational awareness and training on environmental protection. BanSenSuk e.V. is also committed to supporting the expansion of the training courses and activities to more schools and villages in the area. This could make the region a role model for other districts.

LAOS: Studierende initiieren Umweltbildung und Mülltrennung in Schulen und Nachbardörfern
Ein Studierenden Team des Northern Agriculture und Forest College in Luang Prabang hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht effiziente Methoden des ökologischen Landbaus und der Müllverwertung und -entsorgung in nahe-gelegenen Schulen und Dörfern einzuführen. Die Mitglieder*innen des Green Environment Conservation Team entwickelten Trainingskonzepte, Poster und Aufklärungsbroschüren mit dem Plan, Schulungs- und Sensibilisierungskampagnen durchzuführen. Diese beinhalteten auch konkrete Demonstrationen zu biologischem Gemüseanbau, Kompostherstellung, Wald- und Flussschutz und Abfallmanagement.
Vor allem im Hinblick auf Abfallentsorgung und Recycling ist noch viel Aufklärungsarbeit zu leisten. Die Verwendung von Plastiktüten und -flaschen sowie das Verbrennen von Müll aller Art ist in Laos noch weit verbreitet, und das Bewusstsein für die ökologischen Auswirkungen dieser Praktiken ist noch sehr gering.
Die Umweltgruppe demonstriert effiziente Methoden des ökologischen Landbaus und der nachhaltigen Abfallverwertung auf dem Hochschul-Campus, ist sich aber bewusst, dass diese Aktivitäten nur nachhaltig sind, wenn sie nicht nur auf ihre Hochschule beschränkt sind.
Mit der Unterstützung von BanSenSuk e.V. in Kooperation mit Stichting Ailine konnte die Umweltgruppe ihre Ideen verwirklichen und Aktivitäten in insgesamt 16 Schulen und Dörfern in der Umgebung der Hochschule umzusetzen. Das sehr praxisorientierte Training umfasste das Sammeln und Trennen von Abfällen, die Errichtung einer Kompoststelle und die Einrichtung einer gemeinsamen Abfallsammelstelle in allen besuchten Schulen und Dörfern.
Das engagierte Team unter der Leitung von Herrn Somphong Khammalavong hat die Inhalte mit viel Spaß durch einen innovativen Ansatz mit Spielen, Quizfragen und praktischer Anwendung vermittelt. Die BanSenSuk Vorsitzende konnte die ersten Trainingskurse begleiten und zusätzliche Anregungen für die künftige Durchführung geben.
Alle begonnenen Aktivitäten werden durch regelmäßige Follow-Up Besuche verabfolgt und begleitet. Auch die Unterstützung für eine Zertifizierung als „Green School“ bzw. „Green Village“ mit erweiterten Aktivitäten ist angedacht.
Wir freuen uns, dass wir diese wichtige Aufklärungsarbeit und Schulungen zum Umweltschutz unterstützen können. BanSenSuk e.V. setzt sich auch dafür ein, die Ausweitung der Trainingskurse und Aktivitäten auf weitere Schulen und Dörfer in der Umgebung zu unterstützen. Damit könnte die Region zum Vorbild für andere Landkreise werden.
